Time To Get On The Road*

A couple of you know this already, but now it’s time to let you all in on it: GeekHiker Industries is going on the road!

Last year, around this time, I was in the stages of planning out a long road trip.  It was going to be a spectacular solo trip; solo due to the fact that the Ex was a teacher and would be, well, teaching.

Why didn’t we take a trip during her summer break?  That’s a story for another time.

Last year’s trip was thwarted by a system upgrade at work that went bad.

Very, very bad.

Multiple 14 hour shifts, two 24-hour shifts and one 36-hour shift kinda bad.

By the time it was over, it was too cold to take the camping/road trip that I’d been anticipating, and down the toilet it went.

So for the last two years, it’s only been a few days here, a few days there, never even a full week.

So here we are, and things are better now: the vacation time is approved, the truck’s got her oil changed, the packing’s… well, okay, the packing isn’t even close to being done.  Heh.

So where am I going?  Well, you’ll just have to keep tuning in to find out.

I will tell you that it’s a mix of road-trippin and ‘campin.  Maybe even a surprise or two along the way.

I’m hoping to do some blogging along the way, but it will be sporadic (still not a lot of high-speed internet in the wild, and that’s a good thing).  But if I don’t get a chance to blog at all, I hope you’ll all forgive me.  I’ll be on vacation, after all.  And if I don’t, I’ll do a whole slew of posts on my return.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m off to have the “what am I forgetting” panic attack.  Geez, I’m sooooo like my Dad.  😉

* Which should have made you think of this ballad, natch.

  5. Sounds like a long deserved vacation. Relax, be cool, be safe, and don’t worry too much about packing – what you forget can be bought on the road.

Don’t worry about the blogging. I think we’ll all could survive a couple of weeks without a GH fix (I think I can, I think I can …)
