Bad Haiku

An Ode To My Burned Feet*

Standing in shower
Water falls like tiny sharp daggers
On red sun burnt feet

*Yep. Somehow I managed to burn the tops of my feet while kayaking yesterday, despite two thick applications of sunscreen. Even did the whole 30-minutes-before-you-go-out thing. Bloody Hell it hurts.

Where is the sexy pic of said feet???? 😉

Hahaha nice haiku. Hope you feel better soon!

Wait a second– aren’t haikus supposed to be 5-7-5 syllables and not 5-9-5?

Tgaw, I think that is why he put the ‘bad’ disclaimer in front of it 😉

Geeky, I know it’s too late now, but sunscreen is meant to be reapplied several times over the course of the day if you are outside for a considerable amount of time, which you said you were in your previous blog entry.

no such things as a “bad haiku” – but tgaw is right, it should be 5-7-5. i like you you rebel against conventional haiku format

Oh, so jealous of sunburns. It’s been too cold here to even think about wearing anything less than a winter coat and scarf…sometimes a hat 😦

Send some of that California sunshine this way.

And as someone who LOVES the water – oh, how I’m counting down the days until summer vacation and the beach – soak up more of it for me 🙂

Sorry you’re sunburnt, but I hope you had a blast.

Lucky dog, out in a kayak all day. We stood and stared at iced over lakes, drooling at the thought of it hurrying up and melting. And here you are, shoving your kayaking all up in my face. Bastard.

Just a Girl – I would have thought you would have wanted a picture of the shoes.

TGAW – Thanks. And no, I’m not a poet! Nor can I count, apparently. 😉

Cara – Oh, I know. I can’t remember how many times I put it on, so I settled on two. The irritating part is that even though I put it all over the foot, only part got burnt!

Charlotte – yep, that’s me, haiku rebel. 🙂

East Coast Teacher – don’t worry, spring will come to you soon, I’m sure!

Backpackermomma – Now you know how I feel when you write about all the happy days outdoors with your family!

Perhaps the part that got burnt was exposed due to friction? If something was rubbing against it during your movements then it is likely that friction rubbed off the sunscreen.

    :-p

OK, I have to come to GH’s defense. I quote from a response I left to GH on my blog, Homer’s Travels:

“According to the Wife, an English teacher and Beat Literature expert, The Japanese Haiku is a 5-7-5 sound poem. Since in English sounds are not counted, syllables are often used.

However, the American Haiku, popularized by the Beat Poets of the 1950s, is simply a freestyle three line poem without any number of syllable restrictions.”

    Therefore, great Haiku GH!

Hope your feet feel better soon.

awww, it’s been a few days, so i hope the water droplets aren’t daggers anymore 🙂

    Cara – who knows?

    Homer-Dog – I knew I could count on you!

cripkitty – No, trust me, you don’t…

seine – Thanks. It’s almost better now. 🙂
