Nearly Perfect

It’s been a long day.  In fact, it’s been the longest day of the year.

Being the height of summer, and having no definitive plans for the day, I figured I’d go ahead and do the things I knew I’d like.

So, what makes for the gosh-darn-near-perfect summer day?

  • Sleeping in a bit.
  • Watching CBS Sunday Morning, which is kind of the Sunday paper for those too lazy to read the paper
  • Eating English Muffins with butter and jelly
  • Being reminded of an old, possibly the very first, crush (and noting she still looks pretty damn good, too)
  • Remarkably light traffic on the freeway
  • Spending time at a quiet spot in the mountains
  • Reading
  • Writing
  • Eating fresh blueberries from the farmer’s market
  • Seeing snakes, lizards, squirrels, butterflies, dragonflies, tadpoles and hawks
  • Napping in the high summer sun, being cooled by a gentle breeze, lulled off by the sound of a lazily flowing creek
  • Seeing the sun go drop in the sky, watching the light and shadows change, admiring the backlit leaves on the trees
  • Not wanting to leave, laying in the evening shade on a sun-warmed rock
  • Sharing hiking tips with random strangers on the trail back
  • Enjoying the amazingly light traffic on the return, especially for a summer beach day with school out
  • Calling Dad
  • Fish & Chips from the local fish place
  • Relaxing on the couch, watching a movie

It sure is going to be hard to go to work tomorrow…
