Kinda Sad, Ya Know?

I just realized something tonight.  Halloween is next weekend.

On a Saturday night.  With an extra hour because of the time change.

And me?  I’ve asked around.  Friends seem to have no plans.  No party invites have come my way.  In fact, no plans whatsoever.

On the one hand, I’m an adult, and so it doesn’t matter all that much.

On the other, it’s just kind of a wee bit sad, know what I mean?

  1. you should go out to a pub/bar party. and if you’re wearing a costume it’ll be all the more easy to talk to people. and if your costume is really awesome you might win a prize. so get crackin’.

  2. I agree with blakspring, it’s a great night to just venture out on your own, which is something I end up doing often enough because my friends aren’t always up for going out. In any case, if you wear a costume it’ll help you feel less conspicous I would think. If you end up having a terrible time you can just go home, or you might end up having some fun.

  3. Halloween is one of the few times a year that I don’t mind going out alone. I like it so much I often will sit on the stairs outside my building and give out candy. It’s a bit easier in the neighborhood that I’m in now because it’s safer, just sayin’ and all. I typically wear dumb costumes, witches, fairies, etc. Something super easy. It works well tho.

  4. I am lame as well. My boyfriend was talked into doing the snacks at the church Halloween party, so I’ll be helping him. Still going to wear a costume though. Dress up and go to SM Blvd. Its very entertaining!!

  5. I haven’t done anything the last few years. None of my friends have any parties. It used to be one of my favorite holidays though…

  6. It could be a fun night to go out to a bar (like Valentine’s night except that you can ask cute girls in naughty nurse costumes to give you a physical). I’m staying in this year…hopefully watching a scary movie…before doing the Muddy Buddy run the next morning.

  7. nah! halloween’s overrated 🙂 i always wonder why everyone feels so compelled to dress up and go out to parties. i’m definitely staying home (or working at school).

  8. Well, remember it’s just another day, like any other day of the year. There is nothing special about it unless you let it be special.

But, I COMPLETELY get what you are feeling — coming from someone who has spent many “special days” alone (birthdays, V-days, even last Christmas eve and NYE). It’s not the end of the world. If you feel restless then go out (if the party/bar scene is too intense, then to the movie’s), but if you don’t feel like it, shrug it off — it’s just another couple hours on an ordinary night. Get a stack of DVDs, or go to bed early — a couple hours roll by really quickly.

  9. Throw a party, GH! If no one has plans, send out an evite for a low-key Halloween party.

  10. I’m going to hand out candy while the Wife watches football. Woo Hoo! What a life!!

  11. I concur with the above: go to a bar or stay home and watch a scary movie.

  12. Some of my friends have invited me to join them as a zombie in the West Village.

I’m not much for costumes, tho’. I suggested that I simply wear a surgical mask and go as swine flu patient.

But I don’t think I’ll go, regardless. Not much for crowds. Or (any longer) heavy drinking. Or heavy drinking among drunken crowds.

    Is this why I’m boring?

  13. BlakSpring – I thought about it, but I’ve never been good at going to bars solo…

S’Dizzle – I suppose the costume might help.

CripKitty – Yeah, I get lots of kids, so Halloween is something I usually can avoid. But I think a solo guy, in costume, sitting on his front steps would probably just come off as creepy

Aly – At least you’re doing something!

Jean – I think we’re on the same darn page

Mel Heth – Oh, yeah, like a shy guy like me could ever do that, costume or no. I always wanted to do MB, but never found anyone willing

Seine – I think if I had friends who were having a party, it would be totally fun, actually

K – I suppose it is just another night. Still, the fact that it’s on a Saturday makes it so much more desirable to be doing something

Dingo – If only my place were large enough to have a party!

Homer-Dog – Still better than being single!

    Hebba – Maybe…

AbsurdBeats – I like the swine flu patient idea. Does it make me boring that I have the desire to go to a party, but no party to go to?

  14. Eh, poop on your friends. Not literally.

Halloween is great because you can do whatever you feel like with glitter in your hair and no one thinks twice 🙂

  15. I don’t have plans either and I didn’t thought it was sad ’till now … it helps that I don’t care that much about Halloween, although I like to see (in pictures afterwards) the costumes people come up with.
One of my cousins is dressing up as a milk man 🙂

  16. I’m behind on my google reader. But hop on a plane TONIGHT and get your ass out to DC! Come to a party with me tomorrow night. We’ll have a blast!

If it makes you feel any better, yesterday was my birthday and I spent it with a book and that was mighty fine. 🙂
