We Briefly Interrupt Your Nomally Scheduled Blogging…

…to bring you the following announcement:

Chuck got renewed!  I should get Subway for dinner tonight.

Oh, yeah, and Obama did something regarding upping fuel efficiency on cars but, you know, whatever.

Nothing In The World…

…feels quite like an earthquake.

That one got the pictures moving.

Wasn’t too bad, though.  After all, I’ve still got internet!

Over Thinking The Shopping

Big admission: I haven’t had a dishwasher since I left for college at the tender age of 17.

Not that I’ve purposefully avoided having one, mind you, but every place I’ve lived in since that time has been sans dishwasher.  All my dishes are hand washed and air dried, the old-fashioned way.

Geeky On Multiple Levels

Last weekend I hit a couple of levels of geekdom on the same day.

Saturday I headed up with a friend to the Reagan Library up in Simi Valley.  No, not because I’ve decided to give up my liberal ways and become all things Republican, but because they had a special exhibit going on that I wanted to see before it closes in June.

Reality

Taking a break from cleaning today, I turned on the TV and started idly flipping channels.

Not surprisingly, reality shows were dominant.

HIKE: Mt. Lowe Railway

In its day, the Mt. Lowe railway was one of the must-see attractions in Southern California.  No vacation was complete with out it.

Starting from a trolley line in Altadena, passengers took an incline railway to lofty Echo Mountain, where they could stay at The Chalet or the Echo Mountain House.  From Echo Mountain, they could board the electric Mt. Lowe Railway for the scenic trip up the mountain.

From Echo Mountain, the railway climbed another 1,300 feet in about three and a half miles, passing viewpoints with evocative names like the Cape of Good Hope and the Granite Gate.  At the end passengers were delivered to Ye Alpine Tavern (later the Mt. Lowe Tavern), nestled in the forest on the slopes of Mt. Lowe, for respite a world away from the city.

Concentrating Too Hard On Work…

…does not for good blogging make.

Truthfully, in this economy, I can’t complain too much.  I have a decent job and it pays a decent salary.

That said, I can’t deny that it’s a little hard not to be jealous of the friend who got laid off, then headed out of the country for a month.  Especially when sitting in a noisy server room reading his descriptions of tropical beaches.

Doesn’t stress me, though.  Kinda makes me laugh, actually.

What A Difference

I spent most of last Saturday at home, stomach tied up in knots. Whether or not it was due to the tasty, healthy, but somewhat questionable Indian food I’d had for lunch on Friday, or the very good but (naturally) not-so-good-for-me fish and chips Friday night, I’m not entirely sure.

One thing’s for damn sure: I sure miss the iron-stomach that I had as a teenager.

Back To The Books

Today I headed back to the Festival of Books.  In truth, up until last week I’d been thinking of skipping this year, but by the end of the week I figured I would head up for a couple hours at least.  Guess I just can’t stay away.

I mean, sure, I’ve already got more books on the shelf to read than I’ll probably be able to in a lifetime.  Of course, by that reasoning, what’s a couple more, right?

Since I blogged the Festival last year, I figured I’d stick to another CrackBerry post this time around:
