Okay Fine

(Brace yourselves, it’s yet another rant…)

Okay, fine, so I miss being able to shop for someone special for the holidays.

There, I said it. Happy now?

I can’t lie. Doing my shopping over the last couple of weeks it’s been hard not to notice the happy couples, walking hand-in-hand through the malls and stores, making those cute little glances and smiling merrily at each other, prancing about smugly whilst picking up presents for all of their friends and relatives, gazing deeply into each other’s eyes while enjoying a coffee break between prances, and generally basking in the lovely warm glow their bountiful love for each other.

Did you just throw up in your mouth a little too?

Kidding aside, I have noticed them, though I’m fairly certain that I’ve also successfully managed to filter out the bickering couples, the other single folk, the parents arguing with their kids, etc. That’s the fun part about being single: it gives you the most amazing tunnel-vision.

I do find myself missing shopping for someone else, though. I think a lot of people find the holidays to not be the easiest time to be single, though for me it ranks in pale comparison to being single on Valentine’s Day.

The horror. The horror.

Thing is, I really, really like to give gifts. Receiving is fun, sure, but I really enjoy shopping for a few things that I know someone will enjoy (quality far outweighs quality, folks) and then watching that person open what I selected for them.

It’s not as though I don’t enjoy shopping for friends and family. Sure I do. But there’s something about shopping for your love that’s just really cool, and since The Ex Girlfriend was my first truly long-term relationship, I don’t think I got just how cool until now.

Which makes it suck juuuuust that much more.

It didn’t hurt that she was easy to shop for either. When in doubt, I could always buy her something with Eeyore on it as she loved the little guy.

[Of course, who doesn’t? Well, unless you have a heart of cold stone that is? I mean, c’mon, it’s Eeyore for goodness sake. The one creature put on this Earth to prove on a constant basis that, no matter how bad you thought your day was, his was probably a great deal worse.]

Yeah, I miss shopping with someone too. And, as terribly selfish as it is, I miss having someone shop for me as well, especially someone non-family who got things for me based on simply liking me.

It’s not so much that I’m feeling particularly sorry for myself right now. Things are what they are and overall my life is pretty good.

So what am I really admitting to? Not just that I want to shop for someone, I think, but that I kinda wish I had someone in my life to share the holiday with like I have for the past few years. Someone to drive with me to the relatives and spend time with and lounge in front of my little Christmas tree with.

And, oh, what the hell, someone who’d be willing to give me the gift of buying something kinky and wearing it for me. I’ll add that just because I’m a guy and because The Ex never did.

‘Cuz if you’re going to dream in flights of fantasy, might as well make ‘em big, outrageous ones, right?

  1. If it’ll make you happy, you can buy me something, just don’t expect me to wear anything Kinky for you. 😉

  2. I had a very touching comment to make until I read HD’s and got distracted by the idea of him wearing something kinky for you.

    Bwah ha ha ha!!!!!!!!
    (ick)
    😀

  3. JaG: ick is right!

  4. Okay fine. Buy me stuff. Although, I’m more of a Piglet fan than Eeyore. His sighing starts to annoy me after awhile.

Does this mean my heart is made of stone? Possibly.

  5. Homer-Dog – That’s okay. Wouldn’t want to make the wife jealous or ‘nothin. 😉

just a girl – now I’m curious about the touching comment! Still, I understand the distraction of HD in kinky-wear.

Homer-Dog – I’m… just gonna agree with you here… you know… holiday spirit and all…

brandy – LOL. Don’t worry. I’ve read you long enough to know your heart is nothing stone-like at all. 🙂

  6. It does suck being single in the holidays and not having someone to buy you something kinky to wear.

  7. new to your blog and got a kick out of the post!! thx

  8. I was feeling that too but then I somehow got stuck in front of Bickering Couple From Hell in the grocery store checkout…I just about did a happy dance and offered up a sacrifice to the Gods of Singledom after that. Being single on Valentine’s Day though totally sucks even though I’ve always thought its a pile of crap.

  9. Wendy – Oh yes, yes it does.

angie – *blush* thanks! Welcome in to my geeky little part of the web.

Ruby – Yeah, I think it’s definitely a grass-is-always-greener type of thing. VD is just horrid though…

  10. Everyone gags at the holiday PDA of couples…. until they’re the one in that position and it never crosses their mind again. That’s just the way it works.
