Jones!

(What, you haven’t read the other new post below? No, no go read that first. Then come back here. Oh, and this was written at 2:39 AM, so go easy on me, ‘k?)

When the original Star Wars movies were re-released in the late nineties, I didn’t stand in line for two days before to see the first showing.

I never stood in line for a month and a half in Hollywood to see the last new Star Wars move at the Chinese Theatre.

Never showed up at midnight to be the very first one to see any new release, come to think of it.

Never waited in a long line at a bookstore to pick up that brand new Harry Potter book, either.

It’s just not my thing. Normally.

Driving home from work today, though, I saw a theater showing Indiana Jones tonight at midnight.

I’ve been seeing ads for six months. Then a billboard every time I get on the freeway after work for the last month. And the last straw: every day for the past week, on the way into work, a one of those animated billboard showing a ‘freaking countdown.

I figured “What the hell. If there’s any movie I’m gonna see at midnight, one that screams back to my childhood, this is a pretty darn good choice.”

Seeing it in a full theatre with a bunch of other fans?

It. Was. Awesome.

And who knew that many people in LA owned fedoras?

Remember the 10-year-old boy in me? Still wearing the same grin he had throughout the movie.

The 34-year-old man? Yeah, he’s grinning too. 😀

  1. A friend of mine asked me out of the blue if I wanted to watch the movie two days ago. And I must admit it was pretty good.

  2. I can’t wait to see it!! The first one had me completely enthralled as a kid. Leaping from couch to chair in my parents’s house to escape the bad guys and dodging the natives (deer, birds, racoons) in the woods behind our house filled my days. I never had a fedora but a I made a kick-ass bull whip from my dad’s bathrobe belt. Until I got it taken away from using it on my brother.

  3. AWESOME! We had a theatre playing it at midnight, but I didn’t make it over there. I look forward to seeing it!

  4. Still a youngster at heart.

I wonder when I can squeeze it in myself…

  5. Hmmmm I have a movie theater gift card that needs to be used before we move. The Wife isn’t interested in going with me and going alone feels a little geeky. I wonder who I’ll find to go see it with?

  6. What is up with the fedoras?! I was just thinking that when I was out last night. Trends are so in your face around here, more so than any other city where I have lived.

  7. I just found this blog through Mel’s and your photos are incredible! Glad to hear Jones was good; I think a couple co-workers and I are sneaking out and catching it at the theater next door tomorrow.

  8. YAY! I have been hoping it would be good…. I have done the midnight movie thing, but not since Lord of the Rings. I think that Indiana Jones was a good first choice… legendary really!

  9. Gany – It was. I went into it knowing exactly what I wanted it to be, and wasn’t disappointed.

Dingo – Heh, read the post I linked to. Little GH was a mighty fine Dr. Jones!

TGAW – I hope when you do you’ll post a review!

    Just A Girl – I hope to always be! I’m sure you’ll find a time…

Homer-Dog – Hey, wait, I went alone, what are you trying to say? I’m sure you’ll find someone to hang at the movies with ya…

Hadley – I don’t know. Maybe it’s because most men look pretty good in a fedora…

Jane Moneypenny – Welcome to the site! I hope you’ll e-mail me and let me know what you thought!

Aly – I think you’ll like. Oooh, LotR, what was that like with a midnight crowd?

  10. I’m sorry, but I’m laughing at you right now! 🙂 This post? Screams GEEK!!!!!! But, I like you anyway!! 🙂 Glad you enjoyed!!

  11. *kb* – LOL, but that’s okay, because I am a geek! 😀

  12. I was supposed to go to a screening (yes, I have connections :P) this weekend but it got canceled! I can’t decide whether I should wait for a reschedule of the screening or just go see it… BTW, saw Ironman after you wrote about it – it rocked!! Totally loved it.

  13. Stop teasing, I saw it. 😛 I saw it on Saturday, and although pleasantly surprised, the CGI was a bit too much for me.

  14. I saw it… and while it was entertaining, I wasn’t impressed. (And the Tarzan scene totally sucked.)
