Back To Life, Back To Reality

I’ve been on vacation for 9 days. I’ve been out of town, seen places I’ve been to before in a whole new way, tried sports I’ve never tried before, spent time with old friends and made new ones.

Yet, I sit here, staring at the blank WordPress compose screen, and feeling equally blank in my mind as to where to even start writing.

Heading For The Hills

So I’m off for the next few days on a bit of a mini-trip. I’m going to leave the destination a surprise until I return, mainly because I’m hoping the pictures will be a thousand times better than anything I could ever write.

HIKE: Stunt High Trail

Fellow blogging hiker Homer-Dog and I disagree on hiking in the rain: I have a great deal more love for it than he does, I think.

So, despite the warnings in the forecast last weekend for heavy rain, I headed out for the trail anyway.

Morning Realization

Ever wake up to the sound of your alarm, all warm and comfortable in your bed, happy that it’s finally Friday?

Then, as it slowly dawns on you just how cold the room you’re about to climb out of bed into actually is, your brain becomes conscious enough that you realize it’s not Friday, it’s only Tuesday?

Yeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaah.

Simple Toys

Google today was nice enough to remind me that it’s LEGO’s 50th Anniversary. I had no idea.

Snowy Skyline

Ever have one of those weekends where you run around like crazy and get absolutely nothing done?

Okay, this weekend wasn’t quite that bad, as I did get a few things done, but I’m still way way way behind. A trip is upcoming soon, and I’m not nearly ready for it. Heck, I haven’t even started packing.

Plus, there’s studying to do, all of your lovely blogs to read, and a couple of hiking posts to write.

On Water Heaters, Bad Drivers And Stormy Beaches

So I finally have a new water heater.

Unfortunately my, er, thrifty landlord went the same route as his predecessor: copper connected directly to galvanized, not strapped properly, no drip pan.

Which means that in a few years time, and who knows whether or not I’ll be here by then, the whole thing will have to be done all over again.

Overwhelmed

Ever have one of those weeks were everything that’s going on in your life just feels completely overwhelming?  And no matter how fast you try to run, you’re just falling further and further behind?

Yeah, it’s been one of those kind of weeks.

The biggest problem at the moment is that I highly suspect that changes are in the works at work.  Changes that may or may not put my job situation at risk.

Lightening Up At Lunch

Based simply on my own experience and those I know that are in the same boat, I know that occasionally feeling down about one’s single status is completely normal.

Some days you just feel like you’re surrounded by happy loving couples (you know, the one’s who do the over-expressive cute things just to show the world how amazing they are together and irritate everybody, single or no), whereas you’re stuck in the world-class pain-in-the-proverbial-ass that is dating.

For me, those days are, for the most part, short-lived. It’s like any other situation in life: the grass always seems greener on the other side.

Damn Good Day

Last week was one of those weeks that was neither good nor bad. It was just kind of there, you know?

One of those weeks where I got up, went to work, went to the gym, came home, surfed the net or read, went to bed. Nothing great happened, nothing disastrous occurred. It was just about as average as a week could be.

That’s not a bad thing, mind you, but it’s not that thrilling. Doesn’t make for good writing, either.
