So I Did It

(I’ll get back to the trip stuff soon, promise.)

I left a birthday message on The Ex’s answering machine today.

A little late due to my being out of town (which I was sure to mention), and short and sweet, just like the message she left me in August.

I wish I could say that I sounded cool, calm, and collected, but I’m pretty sure I probably didn’t.  I probably sounded nervous as hell.

And for about five minutes afterwards, I felt really weird, wondering if it was a mistake, a bad idea, a stupid thing to do, etc.

Then it occurred to me: I don’t bear her any animosity, I was returning the nice (and brave) gesture she put forth, and I really do hope she had a good birthday.  What kinda guy would I be if I didn’t?

And that whether or not she returns the call doesn’t really matter to me, as odd as that may seem.

Thing of it was, I actually felt kinda bad when I thought about not returning the gesture.  Cuz sometimes, it’s just nice to wish someone a Happy Birthday.

You make a mom proud! Hey, don’t laugh, I’m almost old enough to be your mom … kinda, sorta ..maybe …

I’ve struggled with this one too. Very difficult to know what to do. I think you did the right thing.

Do people in California still use “answering machines?” We have “voice mailboxes” out here on the east coast… Catch up with us! Awww, ya know I’m just pokin’ fun.
