Competing Theories – Follow-up

First, can I just say?  All of your responses to the last postAwesome!

I’m honestly not surprised everyone’s opinions were all over the place; it was that way with my co-workers as well.  Whatever her actual thoughts were, it did make for some interesting thoughts and discussion on what motivates people, don’t you think?

Competing Theories

Allow me, if you will, to describe the following situation, then y’all can let me know what you think.

Saturday, I went to the library to do a little research, a little reading, a little writing, all blissfully removed from the distractions at home and the obscenely constant music one finds at the average Starbucks.

Vancouver Olympics 2010 – Final Thoughts

You didn’t think I was done with the Olympics, did you?  They were only over a month ago, after all…

Okay, seriously, I just wanted to share a few final, random thoughts about going to the Olympics in Vancouver:

Friday Sillyness: Response-In-Cheek

(This is kind of a response to a particular comment on this post from last month or, at least, that’s what inspired it…)

I think, perhaps, it’s time that I admitted something to all of you.

Something you may not have known about me.

Brace yourselves.

Vancouver Olympics 2010 – Days 13-14 – Slow ‘Ridin

Under normal circumstances, I’d have wrapped up the Olympics travel posts with “on day 13, I got on a plane and flew home.”

I’m cooler (or at least geekier) than that, though.  Since I scored a pretty good deal on the flight up, I decided to spend a little extra time and money on the way home:

I fulfilled a long-time dream and took the Amtrak Coast Starlight.

Loss Of Cred?

So, if I were to tell you that, Saturday, I headed out to Las Virgenes Canyon Open Space, that would be cool, right?

If I told you I went out with my camera and took pictures of the green springtime growth, that would be cool, right?

Vancouver Olympics 2010 – Days 9-12 – Tourist!

Day 9 – Intellectual Day

Not having any events and with my friends working, I decided to head into the city despite my cold.  My goal was the Museum of Anthropology, located on the UBC campus.

My first stop, though, was Tim Hortons, where I downed a cup of hot chocolate and a couple of donuts.  Not my normal breakfast of choice, of course, but I figured I was sick and I’d allow myself the luxury.  Loaded with empty calories, I got back on the train and then took the bus out to the beautiful UBC campus, walking the last portion to the museum.

(Sorry these are taking so long to put together.  I’m hoping to get them done before the London games in 2012…)

Day 6 – Goodbyes and Hockey

Sadly, The Best Friend and her beau had to leave on this day.  Their flight was in the afternoon, though, so at least I was able to spend some time in the city with them before they left.

Go. Watch.

I was going to put up another Olympic Post tonight, but I figured I’d take a moment make this suggestion: right now the Paralympic Games are going on.  Unlike the Olympics, NBC isn’t showing a whole lot of them, but you can find coverage on their Universal Sports cable channel.

If I could have, I would have stayed in Vancouver to see the Paralympic Games as well, but given the gap in time between the two games and the potential costs involved, I just couldn’t do it.  Someday, right after that lottery win…

Anyway, the competition will be just as intense, the emotions just as great.  I’ll by trying to catch as much coverage as I can, and I hope you’ll do the same.

Vancouver Olympics 2010 – Days 3-5 – More Events!

Day 03 – Rest, then Party!!!

Day three was mostly a rest day.  JaG and SJ had to work, so the rest of us slept in, watched the Olympics on TV, and walked around the neighborhood.

Much like The Parentage’s new place, JaG’s neighborhood is interspersed with forest creek areas, with nice trails going through.  L.A. has nothing like it, for the most part, with the majority of the city’s old creeks and riparian areas now routed through concrete channels.
