Another Holiday Fail

I think Halloween is becoming a bit like Valentine’s Day for me: another holiday that falls squarely in the category of “fail”.

Valentine’s Day, of course, sucks when you’re single. It’s basically the universe’s way of taking your current status and rubbing your face in it. “See?” the universe says, “Look at all the happy loving couples out there EXCEPT YOU. All the guys that are getting nookie tonight EXCEPT YOU. Doesn’t your life suck? Now, go eat candy.”

HIKE: Mt. San Antonio (Mt. Baldy)

In all the years I’ve lived in Southern California, I’d somehow managed not to hike Mt. Baldy. I think I always thought the drive out to the trail head was too long. But, despite the long haul, I did it anyway a couple of weeks ago.

Mt. San Antonio, better known as Mt. Baldy, is the tallest peak in Los Angeles County. Along with The Bridge to Nowhere, it’s one of those hikes that every hiker in Southern California must at one point do.

HIKE: Sawmill Mountain ’08

The “Annual Fall Colors Hike” is always something of a guess: some years the trees haven’t turned yet, other years they’ve already turned and the trees are bare. This year, the timing was perfect.

Unfortunately, that didn’t make for quite the perfect hike. I spent the entire hike being surrounded by hundreds thousands billions gazillions of tiny little flies.

Missing That Part Of My Childhood

I mean, Drew Carey is all right and all. He’s definitely doing his best to maintain the same vibe, right down to the “spay and neuter” message at the end of the broadcast.

But, dammit, I miss Bob Barker. Which I was a kid, at home alone with a cold, that hour of Price Is Right with Barker was a sick-as-a-dog-in-front-of-the-tv tradition.

Getting older sucks.

*sigh*

Bad/Good

Bad: Coming down with a cold.

Good: Getting to leave work early because I think I’m going to pass out.

Friday Sillyness

So, ever wanted to waste a few totally unproductive hours on the internet?

Of course you do. You’ve probably done it already today.

Just A Question

Just a curiosity that popped into my head tonight when I found out the debate was in New York.

If the population center of the United States is west of the Mississippi, why were all the debates either at the river or to the east of it? Shouldn’t there have been at least one debate out here, where, you know, fully half of the country’s population lives?

Now, maybe I’m being “elitist”, but I think we West-Coasters have been snubbed!

(Sorry, just felt the need to add a little brevity to this whole thing. 🙂 )

Hell’s Angels Lite

Traveling to various trailheads in the Angeles and Santa Monicas, one thing that’s unavoidable are the motorcyclists that cruise through the mountains on the weekends. Singly or in groups, they’re always along the roads going up and down the hills.

I find that there are basically two groups. The first are the older guys (and girls, natch) who are out for a lazy cruise. They average 40 miles per hour and take the whole day to ride through the mountains.

Sleepy, So Very, Very Sleepy

I skipped the gym tonight. I was exhausted, and actually ended up coming home to an overheated house (seriously, it was about 90 in here) and crashing for 40 minutes.

You might save I’ve been a bit sleep-deprived of late.

Might have something to do with the fact that I’ve been getting, on average, maybe five hours of sleep every night.
