Is It Weird?

Rarely do I ever mention politics on this site. I love a good political discussion in real life, but it’s just not something I want to chat about here on the blog.

But, seriously, is it weird that there’s a small part of me that’s actually happy about the fact that the meltdown on Wall Street this week is forcing the candidates to talk about actual issues rather than lipstick on pigs?

I know. I’m odd that way.

Another Solo Weekend

Friday at work I had lunch with a friend. She told me how much she was looking forward to her weekend because she was spending the time mostly alone. Time spent alone, she pointed out, was very important to her.

She’s not the first person to make the comment to me. Actually, most of the people I know tell me often about how much they crave/value/need time alone.

Of course, for them, it’s a choice. Time alone for me has never been anything special.

Pretty Sad…

Pretty sad*, isn’t it? That my biggest accomplishment of the week is doing a single photomerge and uploading at as the new header?

*sigh* *shakes head*

Please Stand By…

So I’m back in town from my extended Labor Day weekend. Yet, I feel like I have nothing to write.

Or perhaps I’m simply not feeling that inspired.

Bloggy Business

So, I’m off for a trip for a few days. All will be quiet here on the GeekHiker front.

Just a little blog business: I’d like to update the ‘ol blogroll on the side there. So if you’re not on the blogroll but have been reading, drop me a note in the comments below so I can add ya when I get back.  Oh, and if I haven’t replied to anyones e-mail: sorry I’ve been so busy lately, but I will try to get back to you!

Besides that, I’m just hoping I come back with a groovy new image for the header up there!

So that’s it. I hope you all have a great Labor Day weekend. If you’re going out of town, travel safely. And to everyone: be sure to get a little R&R in, m’kay?

See you on the flip side. 🙂

HIKE: Mt. Waterman Loop

Despite screwing up my knee… er, again… on this hike a few weeks ago, the Mt. Waterman loop is one of the prettiest dayhikes I’ve done this summer. Quiet, sparsely populated, and with excellent weather the day of my trip, it’s a pleasant ramble through shady pine forests and scenic ridges.

Ironically, I’d avoided the hike for several years. I had done the hike when I was much younger, and perhaps more goal-oriented, and found myself disappointed at the lack of a true “summit” at the top of the climb.

It’s true: the top of Waterman is a flat, rambling area with nice, but not “panoramic” views. Now, for me, the trip is more important, and the once-disappointing flattish summit is now a great hike and the perfect area for a long lunch break and extended nap.

Second Date… Denied!

One of the big ironies of my dating life is that, while I don’t do it that often or (to be frank) all that well, I do come up with some damn good ideas for dates.

Well, at least I think they’re good ideas. Maybe for a certain type of person… someone a little geeky or quirky or something along those lines.

I Am So Un-Hip

On one of my recent group hikes, someone recommended the author David Sedaris. I’d heard of him, of course; whenever a new book of his comes out the bookstore near my workplace is flooded with them, dozens of copies lining the shelves and seeming to take over the “new releases” table entirely.

People in my age group always seem to get very excited when he has a new book out. It’s not uncommon to see a large crowd form over at the bookstore when he shows up for a signing. And so it was that I started to think, between the hiker recommendation and the lines of my peers, I should check this whole thing out.

So I headed to a local library, picked up a copy of “Naked”.
