HIKE: Strawberry Peak

As you may remember, one of my very minor goals this year was to break out of the rut of trails I’d been hiking and strike out on some new ones. The first of these was one of the two hikes I did a week ago.

I’ve passed by Strawberry Peak, the highest in the front range of the San Gabriels at 6,164 feet, more times than I can count. Its stark face is prominently visible from along the drive up Highway 2 as it heads into the high country. Three sides of the peak are very steep, leaving only one relatively easy ascent from the east side. This is the one a couple of friends and I tackled for my first bagging of the summit.

No Rush Here

So the feeling of blah resignation continues. Not helped, no doubt, by the neighbors and the fact that I continue (!) to make my office at work the server room.

Monday I had a headache most of the day, and even though the medicine I’d downed (coming soon to a reservoir near you!) had pretty much taken care of it by the end of the day, the blah feeling led me to skip the gym.

Nope, didn’t go. Skipped it entirely. Went home instead.

HIKE: Bridge To Nowhere

I swear, I think I’m cursed to be cold on this hike.

I’ve only done it once before, on a mid-summer day that, for whatever reason, was cloudy and cold. A couple of weeks ago I did it on a spring day that was forecast to be mostly sunny; instead, it was cloudy, cold, and slightly rainy.

Don’t misunderstand me, here: it’s a great hike. And someday, I’m going to do it when the sun is shining.

Day 7 – Errands & Movies

The day after we got back was errand running & relaxation day. You know the exciting things like getting an oil change in the car. Well, at least I thought it was just an oil change, until it was pointed out to me that the mileage was at the point I needed the $250 service.

Ouch.

Feeling… Fair

So the weekend is over and, although I didn’t really get done any of the “practical” things that I should have been doing this weekend, I did manage to fit in some enjoyable activities that brought my mood up from Friday to… fair.

I say fair because at the moment I’m feeling rather nebulous about everything, neither up nor down. I’m just kind of “there” at the moment.

Out-Of-Sorts

I’ve been decidedly out-of-sorts all week, and I can’t seem to put my finger on precisely why.

There are a few probable contributing factors, to be sure. None of them seem significant enough, on their own or combined, really, to have brought about the mood I’ve been in.

Yosemite In Winter Trip Day 6: So Hard To Leave

(Went a little picture-happy on this one; hope you don’t mind.)

Our last day in the park would have been a lovely day to sleep in until check-out time from the hotel. After all, we had no place we needed to be, and we were on vacation.

Unfortunately, we had arrived back at our rooms the previous night to discover a note on our door informing us that PG&E was shutting off the power at 8:00. As such, we yet again set an early alarm for the morning so we could shower, breakfast and pack the car before the lights went out.

Oh, well.

Yosemite In Winter Trip Day 5: Skiing!

Today was the day, the pass was open and, at long last, we would don skis and glide across the white stuff.

No, really! We actually got to ski on the third full day!

Just Because

I don’t have anything particularly profound to say today (unlike Aaron’s interesting post and, no, no one proposed, but thanks for asking), but since I won’t get this chance for another four years, I couldn’t resist posting on Leap Day.

Group Avoidance

What would you do if you were planning to do something you love, but had no desire to do it?

It’s funny. I have a hike scheduled for Saturday, a group thing, and I’m not really looking forward to it.

Yeah. I know. Me. Un-thrilled by a group outing. Big huge ‘freakin surprise.
