Trying To Get In The Spirit

So I’ve decided to test-drive WordPress’ pre-built Holiday blog theme. What do you all think? Too much?

Here’s the problem that I’m having at the moment (perhaps exacerbated by last Friday’s party (which in itself is a tale for a later post)) is that, as I just noted on Brandy’s site, the closer and closer we get to the actual day, the less and less I feel the ‘ol Holiday Spirit. The constant droning of the marketers on TV and all over the place just wears me down. I usually manage to bounce-back on the day of, but that’s still a couple of weeks away.

The Spirit of Taking

(If you haven’t already commented on “Gone” below, please feel free to do so.  I’m particularly interested in people’s opinions on that one.)

I’m leaving in a bit to attend the office Holiday Party. I approach it with, for lack of a better description, bemused dread.

Heh, “bemused dread.” I like that.

Allow me to explain. A lot of offices do a gift exchange at their parties: everyone brings a gift, the gifts are exchanged, everyone goes home with a gift. Simple, fun, the giving and receiving of gifts in the holiday spirit, it’s all good.

My office has a twist.

Gone

The Secret Spot is gone now. All burned up in last month’s fire.

Found out in a news article today.

It’s funny, but when I mentioned the area in a post last summer, I didn’t give many details about it. Didn’t say why it was special to me. I thought about writing that into the post but decided that I didn’t want to jinx things, so I just let it slide. “I’ll write that post this winter, after fire season is over,” I thought.

It doesn’t matter now, I suppose.

Hike: San Gabriel Peak & Mt. Disappointment

Last Friday a storm rolled through Los Angeles, clearing a lot of the dust and particulate matter out of the air, leaving clear blue skies this morning. With bright sun streaming in my windows at temperatures in the sixties, I headed for the Angeles and San Gabriel Peak.

Of course when I reached the trailhead at 4,740 feet, things were a bit chillier. Hopping out of the truck, the thermostat read a nippy 46 degrees. Of course, I wore shorts. Duh. The first part of this hike was done, shall we say, at a brisk pace.

Sci-Fi Shows The Weirdest Stuff

Sat down on the couch tonight to write up today’s hike, but with a bit of a headache going, everything I wrote was, well, bloody awful.

So instead I’m bombing out on Tin Man on Sci-Fi, as it’s pretty much the only original programming anywhere on the tube tonight.

Over-Conspicuous Over-Receipting

Today I headed over to Lowe’s to pick up three items. Three little items. Hand carried them to the register myself without breaking a sweat.

Friday Sillyness

Tonight I was going to write a long post, another rant diatribe well-thought-out-missive on something else in my life that’s bugging me right now.

Then I thought about it a little and realized that most of my readers will be seeing this post on Friday. And, seriously, who wants to read that kind of drivel on a Friday?
