Have you ever have a moment, a shining moment of clarity, when you realize that not only did someone you trusted lie to you, but that the act casts doubt on everything that they ever told you?
When that realization strikes, what do you do?

Remember that long-ass, whiny post from Monday?
Maybe it’s all much simpler. Maybe it’s just that I feel I’m stuck in a rut. And if that’s the case, maybe I should stop being so damn wordy. You know what they say about a picture being worth 1,000 words, right?

Okay, now that that’s out of my system, I feel better. And, it’s warmer lately, too.
So, maybe you read my last post and thought “well, hell, GH: your class ended on Saturday, what about Sunday? Why didn’t you get out on the trail?”
I would have. I wanted to get out and do something fun, believe me. Only fun thing I managed the whole weekend, though, was seeing “Paul” Saturday afternoon (solo, after the friend I was going to go with got sick). Didn’t even make it out for a hike, and not out of any fear of wet trails (obviously, I don’t have that), but for more practical reasons.
Simply put: I had shit to do.

(Yeah, I just made that pun. Deal.)
I don’t know quite what to do with this post. I’ve struggled with it for a couple of days now, and every time I work on it the tone comes off as much darker than things actually seem, much darker than things actually feel. Whether that’s because that’s how things actually are or just the fact that I’m a piss-poor writer, I have no idea.
So let me start by just throwing it out there: I haven’t been feeling particularly “up” these days.
It’s not the weather. The series of cold storms bringing heavy downpours that have rolled through the Los Angeles region in the past week are something that, to no small degree, I enjoy. The fresh smell in the air, the clear weather afterwards, the variety of clouds in the sky, the sound of rain on the roof: these I like.

A couple of weeks ago, I woke up with an urge to do the Mishe Mokwa/Sandstone Peak hike. I’d blogged about the hike before, so I left the GPS at home but, well, you know me: I couldn’t head out without my camera.
Now that I’ve looked at the old write-up, though, I realized it was one of my early efforts: no pictures, no topo graph, etc. At some point I suppose I’ll have to re-do the whole thing, if for no other reason than it’s bugging me now.

No, I haven’t disappeared off the face of the Earth. Not kidnapped by aliens, didn’t win the lottery, didn’t let the “fame” of the big post go to my head, and didn’t elope to Vegas for an Elvis wedding with a Hollywood starlet. The explanation for the recent quiet-tude is much, much simpler: the second half of this class is, frankly, kicking my ass.
I spent all day Saturday this weekend studying. Chapter 5. Yes, that’s right, all day just for one chapter. All 75 pages of it. All. Damn. Day.
Even worse, it was a gorgeous, spring-like day outside on Saturday. Blue skies, light breeze, the whole bit. And I stared at a computer screen for all of it.

Not this Monday. No, today is one of the few actual holidays I have from work.
Want to have a weird Monday? Try mine, a couple of weeks back, when WordPress elected to put one of my posts on their “Freshly Pressed” front page.
My first thought? “Damn, I should’a spent more time editing that one…”

(I have yet to comment on last week’s post and, well, “whoa” effect. Gotta get this out of my system tonight, though…)
Saturday in Los Angeles was absolutely gorgeous. Clear blue skies, warm temperatures, and visibility from the sea to the snow-capped mountains.
I know this because I saw said snow-capped mountains from the freeway as the sun rose from the horizon.
Before I spent four hours in a windowless classroom.
Then another six at work, not emerging until… after sunset.
Crap.

I love Super Bowl Sunday.
Because of the football game? Oh, hell no. I could give a rat’s patootie about the football game.
No, I love Super Bowl Sunday because it’s like a de-facto holiday in L.A. So many people are sitting on their couches downing snack foods and yelling at their TVs that the freeways are practically empty. Not only does it make it a perfect day for a day trip, it allowed me to get from Orange County back to L.A. doing 80 mph.
That’s just all kinds of cool.

Eventually, my body is going to rebel from this pace. Maybe it’ll just go on strike. Demand better wages, more sane working hours, that sort of thing.
Weekend? What weekend?
Sleep? WTF is sleep?
