HIKE: Peter Strauss Ranch

The Peter Strauss Ranch is a place I go to sometimes for no other reason than the fact that it has a big parking lot.

No, seriously.

Stuff

As I think about the possibility of moving to a new place, I keep finding myself asking this question:

Is it just that I have too much stuff?  Or is it that I don’t have that much stuff but what I do have is so bloody disorganized?

Anniversary… Late…

Apparently, I am bad at remembering anniversaries.  Probably another reason I should stay single, huh?

Turns out that the two-year anniversary of this blog just passed… last weekend.

Rainy Days

For the past few days a series of winter storms has been sweeping through Southern California, drenching the whole area in several inches of much needed rain.

Of course, in the city itself, it turns things into a mess, with traffic becoming a chaotic mess all over town.

Evaporated

I keep staring at this blank screen, trying to figure out what to write.

And just after I type that I think to my self “geez, what a trite way to start a post.”  This post is gonna suck.

Caught between the pressures of the San Andreas Fault and the smaller offshoot Punchbowl and Pinyon faults, thick slabs of ancient sandstone have been squeezed and upended, then weathered down to rounded fins.  Located right at the edge of the San Gabriel mountains, this hike takes you from chaparral to pine forest, from sandstone to granite and back again.

Not bad for only a few miles of hiking, eh?

Clarity

I’d heard it before, many times, but only now does it seem to have finally clicked.

I’ve spent far too much of my life looking back, and not enough looking forward.

What a fucking waste of time.

‘Goin South

I don’t think I can tell you all much about where I was last weekend for two reasons:

1) Because it’s one of those places that really should be kept secret

2) So many of my readers are from, for whatever reason, more frigid parts of the country.  And reading this would make them all want to fly out to LA and hurt me.

So I’ll just give a little list.  The trip involved the following:
