HIKE: East Fork to Iron Fork

(After I edited the bad data on the GPS track, turned out this hike was a mile shorter than I originally thought. Oops. 🙂 )

Our original goal for last weekend’s hike was Fish Fork Falls, an (apparently) lovely waterfall deep in the San Gabriel Mountains.

How deep? Nine miles each way deep. 18 miles round trip deep. By noon we knew there was no way we were going to make it that far in one day deep.

Instead, the hike below follows the East Fork of the San Gabriel River through The Narrows as far as Iron Fork. The falls will have to wait for a future backpack trip.

Hey, No Fair!

(A bit tongue-in-cheek. Say, about 50% tongue-in-cheek.)

Today I read an article online that, well, I know I took away an entirely different message from than I probably should have.

Really, I do.

So Sore, So Good

I’m completely exhausted.

My knees, both of ’em, are sore from rock-hopping all day.

I’m probably a bit sunburnt.

Friday Sillyness

Ever seen an ad on TV that starred an actor that you knew? Sort of. Like, you know the face, but darn it, you just can’t place him.

And every time that darn ad comes on, you stare at it intently, looking at the actor’s face. You’re sure you’ve seen that guy before. Or did you? Maybe not. No, wait. Yeah, you’ve seen that guy before. You’re pretty sure of it now.

The ad comes on again. Okay, yeah, you’ve definitely seen the actor before. But where? It’s right there, right on the tip of your brain.

Good Memories, New And Old

Memorial Day weekend was, for me, pretty uneventful. I would have blogged it sooner, had not this blasted cold intervened.

The one eventful, uh, event of the weekend was journeying up to Oxnard to visit with fellow blogger Homer-Dog. We had met before, last February, and this was our last ditch effort to see each other before he and his wife leave California permanently for the Midwest.

Can’t. Look. Away…

In the midst of my sickly delirium a couple of days ago, I found myself on the couch, hot water in hand, chewing on a cough drop, grazing the cable box for something, hell, anything decent to watch in the middle of the average workday.

Either I’ve gotten a lot smarter over the years (highly doubtful) or the quality of daytime TV has sunk to new lows. Most likely the latter, helped to no small effect by the plethora of talking heads (thank you Fox News, etal.).

At one point, I happened upon MTV.

Sickly Notes

(I’m still a bit sick and my writing skills are in the toilet, but here’s a few poorly-written random tidbits anyway…)

There’s something about being sick that makes me very… melancholy. Don’t know why. Maybe it has something to do with spending half the night coughing and hacking.

I’m not usually one to complain about a simple cold but, damn, this one has kinda thrown me for a loop. Not the cold so much as the above mentioned cough. Last night I didn’t get to sleep til sometime past 3, and woke up at ten. How on Earth I’m going to reset my clock for work is beyond me.

Aw, shucks. Maybe I’ll just have to take another day off work. Darn.

Figures…

The air conditioning in the office is fixed, so it’s no longer a sauna.

The electricity in my office is working, so I’m no longer stuck in the server room.

Oh, Even Better

So the morning after the events of my last post, I’m chatting with my neighbor. She tells me that, even though she sleeps on the opposite side of her house from where our properties abut, she also thought at first that it was her door the cops were knocking banging on.

She had gotten up and gone over to the other side of the house, where she had a better view of the proceedings than I did.
